When metal particles in the ore are coated, it can hinder the metal's ability to dissolve when exposed to the lixiviant.
To prevent this, biopolymers can be used. These are modified natural polymers that act as dispersants, preventing the coating of desired ore particles. By dispersing sulfur, clay, gypsum, and other ultra-fine particles away from valuable mineral particles, metal recoveries can be increased and leach times can be reduced.
