Lignosulfonates are excellent dispersants for conductive carbon and other carbon-based materials, like graphite, carbon nanotubes, and hard carbons.

By including a small dose of lignosulfonates, typically around 1 wt% of the amount of carbon, improvements can be realized in electrode homogeneity and higher solids loading can be achieved while retaining the proper rheological properties for casting electrodes.
